Afriaa Nasir

Vice Chair Business Competition, Symposium, and Community Outreach

Major: Computer Engineering

Afriaa Nasir is currently a junior majoring in Computer Engineering at the Cullen College of Engineering. Along with serving as an officer for Energy Coalition, she is also a teaching assistant for the introductory engineering class. Before becoming a TA, she had been a chemistry tutor for the American Chemical Society, where she had helped conduct the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad. Afriaa is involved with the Society of Women in Engineering, where she serves as a mentor for freshman members. Due to extensive involvement with SWE, she has received the ‘Outstanding Professional Development’ award. Furthermore, Afriaa has served as a panelist for the FRXSO conference which was aimed towards engineering freshman. She was selected by NASA to be a judge for a school science fair which they had hosted. Afriaa is actively involved in organizations such as the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers and Program for Mastery in Engineering Studies. Afriaa has been appointed as the Cougar Mover Crew Leader for Summer 2019 where her role is to facilitate the move-in process for over 8,000 students and manage over 700 volunteers. This position further expects her to design marketing strategies to recruit and train volunteers.
